Artificial Intelligence in Anesthesiology

Artificial Intelligence or Augmented Intelligence (AI) applications are becoming more and more prevalent also in Anesthesiology.

Similar to other technologies that we use every day in the care of our patients, we should become proficient also in AI to protect our patients. Understanding the fundamentals of AI, its functions and limitations will allow us to intervene before inappropriate information or AI-based decisions can potentially harm patients. Achieving what we consider "AI literacy" is important so we remain in the loop not only for patient safety reasons, but also to be able to contribute to (ethical) discussions, research and development in this accelerating and exciting new field. Humans-in-the-loop, or in our case "Anesthesiologists-in-the-loop" (AITL), are subject matter experts who can leverage the benefits of AI, but also understand the risks of algorithm bias and inappropriate decisions and can intervene - especially when seconds count in critical situations.

On this site we share helpful training resources to achieve AI literacy and news related to AI topics.
